About Mossy Valley Farm

A small family farm in New Market, Tennessee

Our Story

Mossy Valley Farm is a small family operation located in the rolling hills of New Market, Tennessee. Our farm takes its name from the mossy creek hollows and lush green valleys that define this beautiful corner of East Tennessee.

We fell in love with the Dexter breed for their manageable size, gentle disposition, and remarkable efficiency on both pasture and woodland forage. Unlike larger breeds, Dexters thrive on smaller acreage while still producing quality beef and milk — making them the perfect fit for our farm.

Our goal is simple: raise healthy, well-socialized registered Dexter cattle and connect them with families and farms who will love them as much as we do.

About the Dexter Breed

Dexter cattle originated in Ireland and are one of the smallest cattle breeds in the world. Despite their compact size — typically standing 36 to 44 inches tall — they are hardy, efficient, and dual-purpose, valued for both beef and dairy.

Dexters are known for their excellent foraging ability, calm temperament, and strong maternal instincts. They are well-suited to small farms, homesteads, and anyone looking for a manageable, productive breed.

The American Dexter Cattle Association maintains the breed registry in the United States, ensuring the integrity of bloodlines and breed standards.
